Notary FAQs

Notarial certificates may vary depending on the type of document. They generally include notary’s name, date of notarization, statement indicating that notary witnessed signer’s signature and verified their identity, and the notary’s official seal or stamp. Please see other FAQs for descriptions.

I can notarize as many documents as you need as long as you agree to pay the fee for each additional document.

  • Document(s) needing notarized
  • A computer and a smart phone (with internet access) or just a smart phone (virtual)

  • Credit history (used for providing KBA questions) (virtual)

If your document(s) don’t have a notarial certificate, it can still be notarized if you can identify the right certificate needed. Oaths & acknowledgments are the most common. If you’re unsure, you can ask the organization requesting the notary for guidance. NOTARIES CANNOT PROVIDE LEGAL ADVICE.

KBA is a method of authentication that verifies the identity of someone accessing a service such as a financial institution or website. (virtual)

This type of notarial certificate is used when a signer acknowledges that they signed a document voluntarily and that they are the person identified in the document. The notary public will confirm the signer’s identity, witness their signature, and then attach an acknowledgment certificate.

A jurat certificate is used when a signer swears or affirms that the contents of a document are true and accurate. The notary public will administer an oath or affirmation to the signer, witness their signature, and then attach a jurat certificate to the document.

If a signer needs to certify that a copy of a document is true and accurate, the notary public can provide a copy certification. The notary will compare the copy to the original document and then attach a copy certification certificate to the copy.

This type of notarial certificate is used when a signer is unable to sign a document in person and instead has a subscribing witness sign on their behalf. The notary public will witness the subscribing witness’s signature, confirm their identity, and then attach a proof of execution certificate.
